Cet atelier se déroule dans le cadre de la recherche What happened to social dancing  de Sophie Melis !

Au cours de ces deux semaines, nous explorerons différentes manières d’activer l’espace et de l’habiter ensemble. Nous nous plongerons dans la danse sociale en utilisant la danse traditionnelle Wallonne comme point de départ. Ces danses ont toutes en commun un aspect d’interaction sociale très fort. Ce sont des danses de couples, où les couples entrent en interaction les uns avec les autres, voyageant à travers l’espace et le façonnant, échangeant de partenaire, fusionnant pour devenir un groupe. Chaque déplacement est chorégraphié et codifié. Plus que les pas eux-mêmes, les rencontres et les codes sociaux sont au centre de ces danses. Que reste-t-il de ces danses dans nos pratiques festives actuelles ?

Malgré l’évolution des technologies,je pense que l’influence de cet héritage culturel reste bien présent dans notre culture festive contemporaine. Nous utiliserons des partitions existantes et en créerons de nouvelles,nous jouerons avec différents ingrédients de la fête. Ce workshop s’inscrit dans le cadre de ma recherche sur les danses sociales en Belgique. Je m’intéresse au maintien du savoir local et aux façons contemporaines d’être ensemble dans la joie communautaire par le biais de la danse. Je me réjouis de partager cette recherche pour la toute première fois dans ce contexte.

Nous prêterons attention à l’accès, au consentement, au soin et à bien d’autres choses pour que la fête soit douce. Cet atelier s’adresse à toute personne intéressée par le mouvement et “l’être ensemble”.(il n’est pas nécessaire d’être danseur.euse professionnel.le pour participer).

This workshop is part of the research What happened to social dancing of Sophie Melis !

Over the course of two weeks, we’ll explore different ways of activating space and inhabiting it together. We’ll be delving into social dance, using traditional Walloon dance as a starting point. These dances all share a strong social interaction aspect. They are couple dances, where couples interact with each other, traveling through and shaping the space, swapping partners, merging to become a group. Every move is choreographed and codified. More than the steps themselves, encounters and social codes are at the heart of these dances. What remains of these dances in our current festive practices?

Despite the evolution of technology, I believe that the influence of this cultural heritage is still very much present in our contemporary party culture. We’ll be using existing scores and creating new ones, playing with different party ingredients. This workshop is part of my research into social dance in Belgium. I’m interested in maintaining local knowledge and contemporary ways of being together in communal joy through dance. I’m delighted to be sharing this research for the very first time in this context. Let’s be curious and explore. We’ll pay attention to access, consent, care and much more to make the party a sweet one.

This workshop is for anyone interested in movement and “being together” (you don’t have to be a professional dancer to take part).
